Privacy policy
Last updated 20 October 2026
Traversal (https://playtraversal.io) is a free daily trivia game run by the Traversal team in Australia (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information the game handles, why, and what you can do about it. We aim to handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
The short version
- There are no accounts. We don’t ask for your name, email address or any other details to play.
- We don’t set cookies, and there are no ads.
- Your progress is stored in your own browser, not on our servers.
- We never sell or rent information about you.
Information stored on your device
The game saves the following in your browser’s local storage, which is like a small notebook kept on your device. It is not a cookie and is not sent to us.
- Your guesses, scores and progress for each daily survey, including answers already revealed to you.
- Your stats, streak and trail patches.
- Whether sound is on, and whether you’ve seen the “How to play” screen.
Why: so a page refresh doesn’t lose your game, and so your streak carries over day to day. Your choice: clear it at any time with “Reset my progress” in the game’s About screen, or by clearing your browser’s site data. Private or incognito windows usually erase it when closed.
Information sent to our server while you play
When the game loads, your browser asks our server for the day’s questions. When you lock in a guess, your browser sends the survey number, the round and your guess. Our server works out your score and sends back the answer.
Why: keeping the answers on the server stops anyone reading them from the page before they play. We don’t keep a record of your guesses or link them to you.
Technical information our host processes
Like every website, our hosting provider, Cloudflare, receives technical information when your device connects: your IP address, browser and device type, the page requested and the time. Why: to deliver the site, keep it secure, and stop abuse such as automated cheating or attacks (for example by limiting how many requests one connection can make). Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie to tell people and bots apart. It isn’t used for advertising or tracking. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
Emails you send us
If you email us, for example to report a wrong answer, we receive your email address and message. We use them only to reply and to fix the problem, and we delete them when they’re no longer needed.
Overseas service providers
Cloudflare operate around the world, including in the United States, so technical information may be processed outside Australia. We use providers that take reasonable steps to protect it.
Children
Traversal is suitable for all ages. Because there are no accounts, players of any age aren’t asked for personal information. If you’re under 18, check with a parent or guardian before emailing us.
Paid features in future
We may add an optional paid plan later. If we do, payments will be handled by a payment provider, and we will never see or store your card details. We’ll update this policy before then.
Security and how long we keep things
The site is served only over secure HTTPS connections. Your progress stays on your device for as long as your browser keeps it. Our host’s technical logs are kept for a short time and then deleted.
Access, correction and complaints
You can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or make a privacy complaint by emailing [email protected]. We’ll reply within 30 days. If you’re not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes
If we change how the game handles information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
